As the seat of the German parliament, the Reichstag Building has strict security measures in place. To ensure a smooth entry, please familiarize yourself with these rules before your visit. Key Visitor Rules

Please adhere to these guidelines for a safe and pleasant visit

Valid Photo ID Required

All visitors must present an original, valid photo ID (e.g., passport, national ID card) at the security check. Photocopies or digital images are not accepted.

No Large Bags

Large bags, backpacks, suitcases, and luggage are not permitted inside. There are no lockers or storage facilities on site, so please travel light.

Security Screening

All visitors and their belongings will undergo an airport-style security check, including X-ray scanners and metal detectors. Arrive 15-20 minutes early to allow time for this process.

Photography

Photography and filming for personal use are generally allowed inside the dome and on the roof terrace. However, it is prohibited in the security screening area.

Common questions about what's allowed

What items are prohibited?
Weapons, hazardous materials, and large bags are strictly prohibited. It is best to bring only essential items to expedite the security check.
Can I bring food and drink?
Food and drink are not allowed inside the main building or dome, with the exception of the rooftop restaurant. You can find dining options on our food and drinks page.
Are pets allowed?
Pets are not permitted inside the Reichstag Building. Service animals are an exception, but it is advisable to contact the Bundestag Visitors' Service in advance.
Do I have to stay with a group?
If you book a visit to the dome only, you are free to explore the roof terrace and ascend the dome at your own pace. If you are on a guided tour, you must stay with your group until the tour concludes at the dome.
